The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) has launched a search for a principal consultant to lead the design of a new whitewater facility that will host canoe slalom events during the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
To be located in Redland City Council's Birkdale Community Precinct, the Redland Whitewater Centre will be Queensland's first dedicated whitewater venue and only the second of its kind in Australia.
The facility will support a wide range of whitewater activities, from high-performance and recreational paddle training to competitive events, adventure tourism, and swift water rescue training for emergency services. It will include changerooms, boat storage, an international-standard canoe slalom course, a kayak cross launch platform and a spectator terrace with temporary capacity for up to 8,000 people during the 2032 Games.
Deputy Premier of Queensland and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the Redland Whitewater Centre will provide a lasting legacy for the state.
"The Redland Whitewater Centre is more than a Games venue - it's a year-round asset for sport, recreation and emergency services."
The project's design, procurement and construction will be delivered by GIICA, as part of the $7.1 billion Games Venues Infrastructure Program jointly funded by the Queensland and Australian Governments, with Redland City Council as the long-term owner and operator.
Expressions of interest close on 21 January 2026.
