Amazing time on the reef, saw some incredible sights that I'll never forget. Lovely crew. Boat had some problems which they handled fine. It does get very hot on the boat and the sleeping quarters are not well ventilated so be prepared for that. Also food was basic so do pack snacks.
It was the worst sailing trip ever … We actually booked a different trip (2d1n with the Matador) but the day before the trip, it was cancelled due to lack of guests. So, they offered to either upgrade to a trip with the Avatar or a full refund. Looking back, we should have taken the full refund … Many bad things happened during the trip but I’ll limit this to the main points. The first one is the lack of crew members. Other than the skipper, there was only one other crew member to provide service to all the guests. The problem was due to the rough, choppy seas, she was sick the whole trip. Hopefully, she’s ok now but imagine having someone sick preparing all your meals for you. I just hope whatever she had didn’t spread to us, especially during this pandemic … The second bad thing was that the skipper didn’t stop the boat for a break during the first lunch. Imagine picking up your food and eating while strong waves hit the boat repeatedly and the boat shaking a lot. I was so dizzy that I couldn’t even chew properly. My wife threw up 2 times during that lunch ... What a ‘wonderful’ start to the trip … The safety measures on Avatar were also lacking. Both I and my wife slipped repeatedly and sustained several cuts and bruises to our arms and knees. Getting injured while on a holiday is clearly not what we want ... Finally, we were promised 3 snorkels and got only 2. Also, the first snorkel was visiting a coral reef that supposedly got bleached so all my wife could see was white corals. Actually, she told me that there were more colourful corals in the airport aquarium ... Not only that, we couldn't sleep for the whole 2 nights since it was so hot inside the common cabin. There was very little fresh air if any. I suggest you avoid this trip during summer (November to March). It's not just us, at least 2 other people were also not happy with the trip. One girl even asked the skipper if there's a bus from the Whitsunday Island back to Airlie Beach (!) since she wanted to return to Airlie straight away. That's how bad it was. To sum up, it's a terrible trip where the sooner it ends, the better. I'd never take a sailing trip with them again, not even if it's free. Note: I already filed a complaint with them but got the usual defensive reply ...
It was amazing experience, definitely worth the money. Whitehaven beach was spectacular and also snorkling spots. Bed are very simple and a lot of noise from flushing toilets, but it was manageable. Just for the breakfast I would appreciate some savory option as well. Crew was awesome, very friendly and easy going. I can just recommend.
Great experience, the crew is really experienced and friendly. Stunning spots and relaxing atmosphere. Fresh and home-made food. However, sleeping is a bit uncomfortable and you spend lots of time sailing, I would have enjoyed a bit more of snorkelling and more time at the beach
Hands down to Neil, Rene and Michaela. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience to sail across the Withsunday Islands. Clear and partially cloudy skies made astonishing sunsets & risers. Top spots for snorkelling and with luck you’ll see turtles among the diverse variety of fish. PD. If you get Michaela as your host/deckie definitely ask her for her secret recipe for an amazing and mouth watering mashed potatoes ;)
Avatar was the best! Got to visit the beautiful Whitehaven beach, snorkel in various places along the reef and even have an amazing time chilling on the boat itself. The crew were super friendly and accommodating to any questions/problems. It wasn’t a crazy over the top party boat but super sociable and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend these guys!
Myself and 2 friends had an outstanding experience on the avatar. The team are experienced, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The food was great, as was the stops at Whitehaven beach and snorkelling. Strongly recommend this vessel to anyone considering. Fantastic trip all around!
