Stop At: Port Arthur Historic Site, Arthur Highway, Port Arthur, Tasmania 7182 Australia

Join us for a fun and action-packed day out on the Tasman Peninsula. Explore, discover and learn with our guides as we enjoy a variety of activities, walks, sightseeing, history, chocolate tasting and much more!

Today is action packed and fast paced, so we make an early start from Hobart and drive directly to the stunning Tasman Peninsula. This area has amazing history, fascinating stories and spectacular scenery. It is also home to Australia’s highest sea cliffs. We enjoy the panoramic views of the area from Pirates Bay Lookout which provides a great vantage here of the surrounding area.

Passing through Eaglehawk Neck and “The Dogline” our Tour Guides will share with you some truly amazing history and stories of the area.

Then we begin one of Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks”. We follow a spectacular track, of around 2 km’s along the Waterfall Bay cliff top. The walk takes around 45-60 minutes, is undulating, but categorised as an easy walk. The track concludes at the remarkable rock formations of Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.

From here we will drop you off for a short visit to the Port Arthur Lavender Farm. Enjoy a self-guided wander around the Lavender grounds, look over the Distilling Shed and enjoy the free samples of the local handmade Lavender Chocolates and Lavender Fudge. Your guide will then take you onwards to the Port Arthur Historic Site.

As we enter the Port Arthur Historic Site, there is a wealth of information and history to take in and you will have ample time to explore and discover the nooks and crannies with around 3 hours on site. Your entry includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a guided walking tour with one of the Site’s expert guides. Discover the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system and get a sense of the isolation experienced by the convicts in this “inescapable prison”. With around 4 hours here, you have ample time to walk amongst the main penitentiary; see the solitary confinement cells and many more buildings in this World Heritage open air museum.

On our return to Hobart, we make a stop at Federation Chocolate Factory, a small family run boutique chocolate stop, with a variety of chocolate flavours to sample. Further along we arrive in the late afternoon into historic Richmond Village. Meander the streets, stop for a coffee, visit the Lolly Shop and walk across Australia’s oldest bridge still in use – a convict built sand-stone bridge, reported to be haunted!
Finally, before we re-enter Hobart we stop for a fabulous view across Hobart from a local lookout. A picturesque way to return to the city.
We drop you back to your Hobart City accommodation around 6.00pm.

(Airport Drop Offs around 5.00–5.30pm – available only with arrangement at time of booking)

We had a wonderful day. Our tour guide was absolutely amazing. He was very knowledgeable and narrated the history of the places we went and that made it even more interesting. Unfortunately the lavender farm was closed due to restoration though the shops and cafe was open. Apart from that we had wonderful time at Port Arthur, did a 30 minute cruise, went to Richmond and few other places. We'd highly recommend. We had a memorable experience.

Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We found the mini bus very uncomfortable as we were in the single seats and I nearly fell off the seat every time we went around a corner! I was also disappointed that we were encouraged not to visit the lavender farm and we didn’t find out until the end of the day that we wouldn’t be going to the chocolate factory, no explanation given. Apart from that everything was great, lots of stops to take photos, get coffee etc and our guide went out of his way to drop us back right outside our hotel

Good experience. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. However, did not get to go see the Lavender Farm since it’s freshly cut. Nonetheless the alternative Zoo tour was great too

The guide was very informative. Port Arthur was fascinating and lots to see. I enjoyed the relaxing feel at the lavender farm. We went to Richmond a historic town. The bus was full and not very comfortable and many hours spent in it hence the four stars.

Loved the cliff walk. Learning the history of Port Arthur and the convicts was so interesting. The boat trip topped it all off.

Make sure you go with Nick - a fantastic tour guide who is very friendly, fun, and knowledgeable about virtually any topic (local history, politics, animals, birds, scenery, etc). Fantastic tour with many surprises - the bush walk from Devil’s Kitchen to Tasman Arch was a nice surprise with breathtaking views. Lavender white chocolate ice cream was incredible, and seeing Port Arthur was well worth it, particularly if you just want the highlights rather than spending a day there.

Booked this tour as it was one of the few ways to see a Tasmanian lavender farm without a car, but it ended up being so much more than just lavender. Port Arthur was good, but our favorite place was the Devil’s Kitchen and Tasman Arch bush walk, which was an easy walk but worthwhile with such fantastic views, animal sightings, and almost nobody else there. The highlight of the day though was definitely tour guide Nick - did three day trips while in Tasmania but Nick was the best guide by far, getting to know everyone on the tour and explaining everything in a friendly, fun manner. Very knowledgeable about Hobart, convict history, other history, animals, birds, scenery, and local politics - he was able to answer any question. Highly recommend doing this tour with Nick!

The day is packed with lots of different activities and lookouts, it was amazingly well organised, such that you never feel the rush amid the activities. The tour followed the itenary which was great and filled with fun, plus a few stops at local cafes and lookouts. Our tour guide Beth (sorry if I spelled your name wrongly) was very vibrant and knowledgeable. I enjoyed her stories and histories, etc, such that the long drives never seemed dull. I was really impressed by her organisation, letting everything go smoothly and on time. Although, I would certainly come back for Port Arthur, the 3 hrs at the site was too short for me. The lavender farm was not particularly interesting. There were only a bit on lavender for display at the site, so you don't really get see the real farm. Despite that, tha cafe could be a good stop for lunch, and the shop was nice, offering a range of products made using lavendar
